The orchard is in full bloom with tiny trees laden with apples. The colours in the apples are simply stunning. It's so exciting to see trees which looked sad, cold and thin 6 months ago, now full of colour and with apples. On one small tree we counted over 100 apples. And then we worried about the load they were carrying. The apples are relatively small at the moment but as they grow this is an incredible weight for the trees to carry. One branch had broken off from the weight of the apples so we walked round the orchard releasing apples from the trees to give them the chance to grow stronger.
No apples for cider this year (in fact we don't yet have the equipment). The apples will decorate the floor, provide food for wildlife and end up in a few of our apple pies. Next year they will be going into cider.
